Equity markets across Asia-Pacific extended their gains Thursday, buoyed by gains in the U.S. and the rise in oil prices.
Brent crude oil LCON8, +0.19% was up last up 0.7% at $77.73 a barrel after rising to 3½-year highs on Wednesday. Some investors expect renewed sanctions on Iran to reduce the oil supply.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng HSI, +0.89% rose 0.9%, helped by gains in China’s major oil companies, which are listed in the city. Australia’s S&P ASX 200 XJO, +0.18% neared a 10-year intraday high, while Japan’s Nikkei Stock Average NIK, +0.39% rose 0.4%.
