Asia-Pacific markets exhibited a mixed performance on Wednesday as investors analyzed Japan’s trade data. In November, Japan’s exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 6.1%, according to data, significantly exceeding the 4.8% average increase surpassing the 3.6% growth recorded in the previous month. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose 0.26% to close at 49,512.28, while the Topix ended the session nearly flat at 3,369.39. South Korea’s Kospi climbed 1.43% to 4,056.41, while the small-cap Kosdaq declined 0.55% to 911.07.

SBI Shinsei Bank surged more than 12% following its initial public offering, which raised 322 billion yen, with shares priced at 1,450 yen each. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 slipped 0.16% to settle at 8,585.2. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index advanced 0.97%, while mainland China’s CSI 300 jumped 1.83% to 4,579.88. Shares of Chinese chipmaker MetaX Integrated Circuits soared over 700% during their Shanghai debut after raising nearly $600 million in its IPO, echoing the strong listing of Moore Threads earlier this month, as demand for AI-focused graphics processing units continues to expand rapidly.

Shares of crypto exchange HashKey began trading about 3% higher on the Hong Kong stock exchange following an IPO that raised approximately $207 million. Oil prices also moved higher after U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he would impose a “TOTAL AND COMPLETE BLOCKADE OF ALL SANCTIONED OIL TANKERS” entering and leaving Venezuela. West Texas Intermediate crude gained more than 1% to $55.96 per barrel, rebounding after U.S. crude prices fell nearly 3% on Tuesday to their lowest level since early 2021 amid concerns over a potential supply surplus and prospects of a peace deal in Ukraine.

Overnight in the U.S., the S&P 500 declined for a third straight session as investors digested the delayed release of the November jobs report. The benchmark index slipped 0.24% to close at 6,800.26, while the Nasdaq Composite edged up 0.23% to 23,111.46. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 302.30 points, or 0.62%, ending the session at 48,114.26.
